Our History

Our transportation roots date back to 1943 when John Simourian (a first generation American) was turned down for enlistment due to a back injury.

Not to be deterred from “doing his part,” John quit his job and met with the commander of the Watertown, MA arsenal who said the military needed additional truck transport from the arsenal to the Charlestown Navy Yard.

Learn More

John enlisted other family and friends who were medically unfit for military service into driving trucks with him, transporting torpedoes from the Boston arsenal to the Navy Yard at Charlestown, MA.

When his son John graduated from college in 1957, he joined his father as a salesman in what had by then become a northeast regional trucking company.

In 1958, John started his own business and named the company Lily after his mom because his father told him it would make her happy.  Lily Transportation Corp. started as a leasing company and in 1967 began a trucking division for Lincoln Foods hauling Lincoln Apple Juice from Lawrence, MA to supermarkets throughout the Eastern states.

In 2007 Lily became solely a Dedicated Contract Carrier after selling the leasing division to a major national leasing company.

Today John Simourian II (named after his granddad) leads Lily’s over 800 employees who design and operate highly efficient, service sensitive dedicated transportation systems for clients throughout the United States.

Our roots were in transporting torpedoes to arm destroyers like the USS Cassin Young at her berth Charlestown Navy Yard.

WWII Torpedoes being loaded…Today we continue to specialize in delivering sensitive cargo, but nothing like this.

I encourage a lot of women to come and work for Lily Transportation. It’s worth your while … its an awesome, awesome place to work.

The equipment at Lily Transportation is top notch.

You’ll love it here you really will!

A mom’s job is not easy but she (Cheshire, CT, Operations General Manager) makes my job easy and also my personal life. Its’s nice to be home with my kids everyday. By the time they get home from school, I am already home. I can help with their homework, make dinner and have everything ready for the next day.

When husband was looking to change companies and I had just gotten my license, I saw a Lily truck … and I followed it because of the equipment. I loved the equipment, it was very nice!

The training is awesome. It’s very helpful to new drivers.

Lily made me feel comfortable and gave me the opportunity to change careers.

It’s a great company to work for … and I just want to ask you (other drivers): “What are you waiting for?” Join us!

Once you come on board here, they (Lily Transportation Corp.) provide you with shirts, hats, jackets, t-shirts, gloves … safety vests, etc. We get uniforms and most of the other companies out there don’t do that. Lily does, and we appreciate it.

I have the most amazing boss, she is fair, she’s great, and she is easy to reach.

Our Philosophy

The two statements of principles provided below are posted at every operation that we manage for our clients and are regularly reviewed by our management, drivers and administrators.

We “walk the talk” and, because of our adherence to these values, we provide exceptional performance, and, therefore, we have been successful. However, in all our success, we must stay humble.

We must remember that yes, we work hard, smart and with great diligence, but our success is not ours alone, it comes by the grace of God. The owning family of Lily gives thanks for His grace.

~  John Simourian II, President & CEO
